CommRowsInsurance commission PDF to Excel / CSV

A sample commission statement, converted and checked

Updated 2026-11-06

This statement is made up and does not come from any insurer. It shows what CommRows extracts from a commission statement PDF, what it asks you to confirm, and what it checks.

The statement

It has 2 pages and 4 transactions, with details that are easy to get wrong when a statement is copied into a spreadsheet: dates written as 03/04/2026, policy numbers with leading zeros, a negative adjustment, and an agent name that continues on the next page. The last page prints a commission total and a transaction count. Open the sample PDF.

Step 1: confirm the date order

03/04/2026 can be read as 2026-03-04 or 2026-04-03, and CommRows does not guess. Until you choose Month / Day / Year or Day / Month / Year, every row is flagged and the download stays blocked:

03/04/2026 needs a confirmed Month/Day or Day/Month interpretation.

This sample uses Month / Day / Year, so every payment date becomes 2026-03-04.

Step 2: review the rows

These are the rows CommRows extracts, with the values the spreadsheet contains.

  • Policy numbers keep their leading zeros. The Excel file stores them as text.
  • The agent name for policy 0001843 continues on the next page. The two parts are joined, and the source text keeps both lines and the page they came from.
  • Policy 0001844 keeps its negative amount, -42.50. It is not dropped or made positive.
  • Every row also records the source file, demo-statement.pdf, and the carrier printed on the statement, Sample Carrier.

You can correct extracted values before downloading. The spreadsheet keeps a record of each correction, with the original value, in the same row.

Step 3: read the checks

  • Passed: Extracted fields and source coverage. 4 rows checked; payout dates, policy matches and target-system acceptance are not independently verified.
  • Passed: Commission total matches source. demo-statement.pdf: $417.75; all amount components, same source scope.
  • Passed: Source row count matches. demo-statement.pdf: 4 transactions.
  • Warning for policy 0001844: Negative commission retained. Confirm this adjustment against the source.

The total and count checks compare the rows with what the statement itself prints. They do not tell you whether you were paid what you expected.

When the numbers do not add up

Two more made-up statements show what happens when something is wrong.

  • The total does not match. This statement prints a commission total that differs from its one transaction. The download stays blocked: Commission total differs: source $999.99, rows $128.50.
  • A line fits no column. This statement has a transaction line that does not follow the table's format. Instead of skipping it, CommRows rejects the whole file: Page 1 contains a line that cannot be assigned safely. No partial output was accepted.

What you download

  • An Excel workbook with 4 sheets: Transactions, Sources, Checks and Readme.
  • A CSV file with the transaction rows.
  • A check report, checks.txt, with the checks and findings.

Transaction columns: record_number, source_file, source_page, currency, policy_number, payment_date, commission, commission_component_2, commission_component_3, total_mapped_amount, carrier, agent, individual_group, product, premium, commission_rate_ratio, commission_type, effective_date, source_fields_json, source_text, edits_json.

In the tool, the sample is free to preview and is not sold. Downloading the files for your own statements is a one-time payment per batch.
